Every so often, an artist will alter their sound to such a degree that it makes you listen to their music in a different way. Just by "refixing" their song "Painted Stars," Berkeley duo Jed & Lucia make you realize that you were watching Avatar without the 3-D glasses. On "Painted Stars Refix," their gentle, electronic-tinged folk-pop becomes a neon, spherical piece of left field pop. The vocals are bleached to the point of abstraction, with a clipping, digitized drum beat underpinning bright, bouncy keyboard stabs. And the way all of these sounds move around each other, almost like bumper cars, gives the track its own asymmetrical beauty. You can check out more music by Jed & Lucia over at their Bandcamp page, and also check out Label Love, Vol. 2, the compilation from which "Painted Stars Refix" is taken.
