It would be difficult to think of a style of music Justin Broadrick hasn't influenced. Industrial, death metal, shoegaze and electronica are a good start, but as founder of past groups including Godflesh, Napalm Death and Final, and now with main project Jesu, nary a genre has been left unturned. "Annul" is one of four tracks off the group's latest LP, Dethroned, one half of a double-disc rerelease on Hydra Head featuring seminal debut record Heart Ache. It's seven minutes of the things Broadrick has perfected in his reign as the ambient and metal mixing king; the songs on Dethroned were partially finished at the time of Heart Ache and completed this year, and long stretches of lush multi-layering and the band's signature slow-build mark a solid return to form.
