Snoretex is the latest recording alias Sam Willis (Walls, Allez-Allez) has turned to in an attempt to get his hazy, ambiguous point across, and "Strange Aeons" is its maiden voyage. Appropriately enough, the track feels like a waking up of some kind: soft, metronomic drums kicking in like the heartbeat that'll drag you out of bed in the morning, synths crumbling like sleep from the corners of your eyes. Willis's love of krautrock bands like Harmonia remains intact, but there are other nods here to both newer acts (Teengirl Fantasy, Pantha Du Prince) and more famous acts (Hot Chip, Fleetwood Mac). It's a promising first stretching out into the world from Snoretex—let's hope he doesn't get hit by a bus on the way to work.
