High-minded shit in every sense of the word, I'm absolutely smitten with this one. Danuel Tate plays keys in brother groups Cobblestone Jazz and The Modern Deep Left Quartet, but his solo outing here shows a keen ear for broader sounds, "Mexican Hotbox" an upbeat deep house march coloured with subtle jazz shades. Truly, I'm not sure exactly how much it sounds like smoking weed in Mexico because I have never smoked weed in Mexico, but the track is a promising omen ahead of the arrival of Tate's debut solo album of the same name, out next month through Wagon Repair
