Nobody does power-pop with a noxious core quite like Cursive frontman Tim Kasher. Today’s evidence? The second deceptively wistful single from his upcoming solo record, “I’m Afraid I’m Gonna Die Here,” manages to be bright with brass, handclaps, and plaintiff vocals while going utterly black with joy-killing lyrics (self-obituaries, bodies tossed on rocks, and the futility of life and love are just some of the topics covered). The Game Of Monogamy arrives on Saddle Creek tomorrow and comes with strawberry licorice in the shape of a noose. Nah, not really, but that would be kind of funny.
