Deluka’s blinding electropop is often described as “kind of punk,” but we beg to differ. Where that characterization invokes vice, Deluka invokes virtue, with squeaky clean, slap-backed guitars, disco strains, and space-grade reverb. Where punk embraces wretched, Deluka embraces woeful, with zero gravity vocals nimbly slicing through tinny, lonesome synths. Punk is unpredictable, Deluka is a stalwart solid. Today's refix, by venerable Brooklyn dream-tweaker Lauren Flax (Sia, Zero 7), is a proper preview for the band's debut, You Are The Night, out now on Vel Records. Is it punk? No. Is it good? Yes.
