Every time I start writing about this track, I end up dragging the delete button back over my words. I think what I want to say is that oOoOO's version of SALEM's crushing "Asia" is 'more dance-y' than the original, but when the bass blasts like it does here, through a ghostly swirl of voices and deathbed synth sounds, the idea of anyone moving in a rhythmically cogent way to this music seems absurd. So I just hit 'play' again and end up engulfed once more in the disorientating dark of SALEM and oOoOO's 'witch haus' or 'drag' or whatever name people have thrown at it today, wondering how music built from the rubble of hip-hop, shoegaze and trance's component parts could be so affecting. Those that love the sound of this should immediately sew their lips together until SALEM's debut album, King Night, arrives through IAMSOUND on September 28.
