To be honest I never expected to hear Johnny Foreigner anywhere other than at the point of combustion, so endlessly explosive is their pop-punk fission. Here on this Sparklehorse cover, though, guitars aren't attacked, they're stroked, drums are completely absent and vocal hooks are blunted into sad sing-along reverie. Out of the campfire and back into the shadows, "The Most Beautiful Widow In Town" will leave your heart burst and scattered like the contents of an overheated bean tin. If combustion is Johnny Foreigner's default setting, this change of pace is apt for a celebration—the trio have just signed with Alcopop!, who'll release new EP There When You Need It in November.
