First of all, on a we-may-have-taken-some-audio-engineering-classes-in-college-and-are-total-sound-geeks level: word to Mr. Dream for utilizing the most interesting kick drum sound of 2010, which is really an appropriation of the kick drum heard on many early Steve Albini records. It sounds like a degenerate six-year-old kicking you in the shin. As for the rest of "Scarred For Life," it's a riling, caustic SST/Touch & Go nod, the cranked output of some guys who discovered late eighties college rock without having to read Our Band Could Be Your Life but aren't actually that old.
