RCRD OF THE DAY: Foals - Spanish Sahara (Deadboy Remix)

There's more navel-gazing on Foals' new album Total Life Forever than there was on their debut, lots of sullen glacial sounds and softly sung melodies, particularly in the giant crescendo that is "Spanish Sahara". For his remix, 2-step acolyte Deadboy eviscerated some wistfulness but not all of it, swapping heart-pumping build for unassuming snare-less twitch. Bits of big room synths start appearing towards the end, but it never fully detonates and stays relatively somber. There will be crying on the dancefloor.
