Unaware of the legend that is Arthur Baker? Perhaps this very condensed production resume will help: Afrika Bambaata, New Order, New Edition, Hall & Oates, and official remixes for Bruce Springsteen, the Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi Lauper, and others when a dance remix was something of a hard-wrought rarity. He's been out of the party-throwing game for a minute, but next Friday, May 14, he returns with a new night at New York's Webster Hall called, naturally, Planet Rocka (buy advance tickets here). The first edition will feature DJ sets from Moby, AC Slater, Neon Indian, and Baker himself, and in anticipation we're giving away two pairs of tickets and this exclusive Planet Rocka rework of British indie band HURTS. It's actually an extended dub of a thirty-two-bar break Baker built for a recent remix of HURTS' "Wonderful Life," elongated here into six-and-a-half minutes of squelchy, catatonic, in-the-red electro-house.
