By the time he joined Wilco in 2004, Nels Cline was one of the guitar world's most ingenious, prolific, and sought-after players, a composer and avant-jazz virtuoso who played like a rock guitarist–full-throttle, equipment pushed to the brink of breakage, sound masterfully warped by an army of effects pedals. His trio The Nels Cline Singers–with drummer Scott Amendola and contrbassist Devin Hoff–predates the Wilco induction and has been Cline's main outlet for visceral, noodly free-jazz since 2001. "Floored" is from their new album Initiate, a two-disc set that's split between studio and live settings (it's from the former, though the latter also features Deerhoof on percussion) and is due out through Cryptogramophone on April 13.
