Since crashing mysteriously into earshot last year, Blank Dogs has grown gradually less shy - first, he let his veil of anonymity slip enough for us to see his face (or part of it, at least) and know him, now, as Brooklyn resident 'Mike Sniper'. Fantastic new EP Phrases, out now through his own Captured Tracks label, boasts a sound in keeping with Mike's decision to be more candid; lead track "Heat and Depression" throwing off the lo-fi fuzz that's blanketed his past work and letting the Eighties synths that always burbled away beneath the guitar racket breathe more easily at the fore.
