RCRD OF THE DAY: Vitalic - Second Lives (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

When people talk about Pascal Arbez-Nicolas aka Vitalic, it's usually reverentially, and with reference to his 2005 LP OK Cowboy and his first EP Poney as essential pieces of the aughties electro bedrock. After another four years between albums, Arbez-Nicolas returned in 2009 with Flashmob, a front-to-back master class in speaker-frying, cathedral-sized electro-disco, and something of a reinstatement for the venerated, if not super prolific, French producer. But this isn't all about him–in a rare bit of openness and torch-passing, Arbez-Nicholas bequeathed new single "Second Lives" to masked duo the Bloody Beetroots. Their version–atypically glitzy for the usually headbanging Italians–sounds like more of tribute than an remix, which is fitting given their status as scions of the sound he popularized. A tip of the hat to one of the masters.
