RCRD OF THE DAY: Walter Schreifels - Arthur Lee's Lullaby
We're going to go out on a limb and assume the folks who were around to hear Walter Schreifels scream his balls off as the frontman of the Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand (and later on, Rival Schools) are older and less angry than they once were. As such, they will probably enjoy his new album, An Open Letter To The Scene, not because, lyrically speaking, it deals with nostalgia for hardcore's glory days, but because it sounds super mellow. "Arthur Lee's Lullaby" is something we'd prefer hearing on a porch–a handful of simple chords on an acoustic guitar, singing that makes you think, "Hey, it's really nice outside." Of all the transformations on the Bowery since the eighties, this one seems like the most natural.
