If you told us thirty-five years ago that the person carrying disco in 2010 would be a bearded, soft-spoken, gardening Norwegian, we probably would've told you to lay off the poppers. But you would've been clairvoyant, because Hans-Peter Lindstrøm has done nothing over the past five years if not assert himself as disco's strongest, most imaginative, free-spirited proponent. Last year he took the genre to altitudes and lengths theretofore unexplored with the epicer-than-epic Where You Go, I Go Too, and now, with Real Life Is No Cool, a collaborative LP with the singer Christabelle, he's revisited to the classic fabulousness of Moroder-era Donna Summer, West End Records, and Studio 54. The album's pearl, "Baby Can't Stop," is available below in edited form.
