Power trios are awesome–this is indisputable. Even more thrilling is when they can play like veteran (as in, seventeen-years-running, though they've only been a trio for four) Portland maelstrom Quasi: full-throttled, shambolic but finessed, the pinnacle of giving 150%. "Repulsion" sounds like the opposite of its title (it's melodic in a careening way) and is the requisite freebie from American Gong, their new album that's already out through Kill Rock Stars.
