Before 2004, when young people finally realised they could listen to more than one type of music and still wear tight jeans, this is what indie rock heard when it dreamed of dance music: treble- rather than bass-driven, with a young, clean male on vocals instead of some nameless, wailing diva; horizon-bound synth wooshes and a reliable snare to drive yr gut pangs.
