Shoegaze is really a masochistic style choice for a band, because music writers really love holding one shoegaze group up to another, even if the amount of bands worth referencing is ludicrously small. London trio The High Wire invite their fair share of comparisons–that blessing from Chris Martin doesn't help–but they also sound so unpretentious in their aping of California guitar bliss that the whole sonic heritage thing seems moot. "Sleep Tape" is the title track from an album that's due on March 8 through Grandpa Stan. It's one worth sinking into.
