Paul Simon’s son Harper has a theory about the long-playing album’s need in our culture, and it manifests itself in his own eponymous debut, feeling of folk soundscapes composing a long, aching arc, regardless of song length. Below, two tracks to gift—the first pure Dad, the second as if Elliott Smith went to Brokeback Mountain—and both sleepy with mellow twang. Harper Simon is midway through his left coast tour now, and dates can be found here, while his self-titled album is out through Tulsi/Vagrant now.
