EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Jorge Velez - Perfume + Across the Spree + Pegaso
Right now as I typpity-type I’m listening to Jorge Velez on Beats In Space — he’s on with Duane Harriott, his partner in the dominating disco duo Bim Marx. Their shared aesthetic privileges fun over slickness and genre, without sacrificing anything (check their new “epic edit” mix-CD for proof). Bim Marx is one of Velez’s handful of musical identities. Don’t worry, I can’t keep up either, and anyway, here’s a taster plate to keep you straight. Freshly brewed in his lab is “Perfume,” credited to the alias Duermo, a sci-fi changeling that comes on soundtracky but then asserts itself as a plingy, textural diaroma. To sweeten the deal, Velez is offering up two slices made in ’07 under his Professor Genius guise, the sky-washing “Across the Spree” and the gracefully proggy “Pegaso.” Sweet.
