You know Vampire Weekend. You know Jean-Michel Jarre. You should know Omar Souleyman. You know Yani. 'World music' - and god I hate that fucking phrase - doesn't sound as odd and as alien as it perhaps once did. If anything it is at times too familiar, used to advertise mobile phones and to soundtrack travel docs on the telly. So how do 'world musicians' (gah!) eke themselves out of this quandary? Well, Fool's Gold call in Phaseone and it pretty much massively works, their track duly washed and, uh, phased into a bleary-eyed, bleary-everything mesh of electronic shyness. If you squint your ears it kind of sounds like the not so good stuff ...Trail Of Dead released being flushed down a toilet and that, my friends, is to be hailed.
