This song is weird. The first minute seems like it wants to play nice with acoustics and shakers, but the drums start to roll out of sync and after fifty seconds it shifts into double-time Fleetwood Mac mode with Rush keyboards. All fine and good. Then it stops completely at 1:30. After a few seconds the first part starts again, then it stops, then the double-time part goes again until the end, interrupted a few times by jagged fills. All this in three minutes, like someone needs some lithium. As mentioned in October, Historics was started by Josh Grubb (of the recently reunited Vietnam), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), and Don Devore (Amazing Baby, The Icarus Line, and the criminally slept-on Ink & Dagger), so maybe those dudes are just done writing simply. We are into it but feel like we just listened to two different songs at once. Historics' debut LP Strategies is out now.
