Freelance Whales use a lot of instruments (could someone explain to us once and for all what harmonium is/are?) to get that rich, golden, afternoon skipping through cornfields sound, even though they walk the same cold, hard streets that we do. There’s something about the earnest pop chorus we can’t put our finger on. It just doesn’t feel like kids we grew up with should be this free, so we figure this five-piece has been transported from some alternate universe or simpler time when being gleeful was more important than anything else.
