A few weeks ago I thought I was over the bilious noise stuff that seemingly every doofus with an oversized t-shirt and a basic knowledge of how samplers work was making. It just got boring. And then Ecstatic Sunshine go and blow that pessimism to pieces, flying kites of beautiful gunk into my ears like teenagers who just discovered that ugly can oftentimes be pretty. All that from "Turned On"–which sounds like the Doogie Howser theme song had Doogie actually been a prodigious modern painter instead of a medical genius–and Cexman's remix of "Dunk," both of which appear on a new 7" for Hoss that's being given away for free. The release precedes their new album, Yesterday's Work, which is also out through Hoss in October. Go forth and be gloriously weird.
