Hard to believe that Lou Barlow's first proper solo record was 2005's Emoh, since the man was doing mangy, at-home recording when Reagan was still in office. But Emoh wasn't lo-fi and neither is Goodnight Unknown, his new LP for Merge, out October 6. "Gravitate" is its first MP3; a brief, earthy bit where The Melvins' Dale Crover plays air cannon drums and Lou strums other instruments that sound like they were pulled off a barroom wall.
