James Jackson Toth, seemingly a man of a thousand pseudonyms but best known as Knoxville freak-folk dude Wooden Wand, scaled back his handle for Hard Knox, a new LP of home demos for Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label. Recorded between 2002 and 2007, when Toth was working out ideas for WW albums on an eight-track at home, the collection is heavy on shuddersome, insomniac ballads like "Arriving." Gives me the heebie-jeebies.
