Apparently, when you move into a Portland, OR attic to make music, shit can get kinda weird. As in, all of a sudden your songs start to feature bird calls and electronics that sound like other airborne fauna. This is probably not all that enlightening and/or surprising, but it's how the newly Dead Oceans-signed duo-cum-trio Nurses made Apple Acre, their debut album out August 4. They let go an MP3 early, the below "Caterpillar Playground," and it's one of those laptop-damaged psych songs that sound really dense at first but after a few listens open up to be simply arranged and full of pop. We'd like to call that an audio Monet but that would be grandiose.
