There was always something slightly off-key about Theoretical Girl's "Rivals" (posted here by Faith back in March) and this remix by Oxford-based producer PRDCTV does nothing to quell the suspicion that when Amy Turnnidge sings "Do we have to be rivals?" it's less a plea than a kindly-worded threat scrawled in poison ink. Whatever the intent, orchestral synths spin the story like a quite literal emotional merry-go-round, Turnnidge never anything but polite and well-spoken. There's always the sense, though, that behind those clean consonants and vowels lurks something altogether more base and feral.
