When we tipped you to New York quintet A Brief Smile last fall, we spent the better part of 200 words talking about how their catchy neo-shoegaze sounds incredibly fraught-over and detailed, which it does (we also apologize for the Frank Gehry reference.) But we failed to mention that these guys can let loose with the best of them, and they do on "Century At Heart," the first song from their upcoming EP, Be Mine. Likely the most straightforward and poppy song they've written, the tune boasts an fantastic chrous hook and heaps of demented AC30 gusts. "For A While" follows it on the record, a pleasant retreat back to their lab of stormy Ride-isms. Both tracks are available for download below.

Be Mine is part of a trilogy of EPs the band are releasing through their website on the first Friday of May, June, and July, with the music available as a free download for a week after the release (more info can be found here). They're celebrating with three release parties at New York's Delancey, beginning this Friday with Akudama, KC Quality, Mean Creek, and Bridges And Powerlines opening. Yours truly will be playing records between sets.

Sounds like: Ride, The Stills, Annuals
