I'm not gonna lie: these Kleerup tracks are giving me a bit of a downer. Currently flung far from England to a small fishing town on the Algarve, Joakim's remix of ubiquitous pop smash "Longing For Lullabies" can't help but remind me I fly home in three hours, it being the type of cut to soundtrack perfectly the end of Iberian holidays. Kleerup's work bears that sore-eyed grudge - the man who co-wrote Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" usually found weary and lost in wist on the drive back to the airport, as the 4/4 throb of sunny house fades in the thrum of coach engines. It's dance music with depth, escapist pop as vivid in its portrayal of beachward climes as a Thomson's holiday brochure. The Titiyo-sung Joakim remix is yours to keep, while the others - featuring the vocal talents of Lykke Li and Marit Bergman - arrive June 1st on Kleerup's eponymous debut album.
