EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: The Rentals - Story Of A Thousand Seasons Past
Matt Sharp's Gen X-beloved pop group The Rentals have been through a lot of incarnations since forming in 1994, when Sharp was still playing bass in a little band called Weezer. But this year, after a decade-plus in existence and with some long gaps in between, Sharp and The Rentals launched their most industrious project to date: a year-long multi-media release called Songs About Time. The first of three planned mini-albums hit their website last week, bundled with an ongoing daily photo diary from Sharp (Photographs About Days) and fifty-two weekly films soundtracked by the band (Films About Weeks, including the one featuring Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago above). We're the only spot, aside from their site, that's giving away an mp3 of the twee-ish piano ballad "Story Of A Thousand Seasons Past," where Sharp goes soft on the insincerity of trans-Atlantic web communication between lovers. A tad ironic considering his Internet ambitions, but we feel for dude 'cause we've actually had to do that before and it is really tough. Enjoy the track. It's totally unoffensive and awesome.
