DOWNLOAD: Lotus Plaza - Red Oak Way

Like his BFF and bandmate Bradford Cox, Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt doesn't just keep to his main gig, writing and recording solo material on the side as Lotus Plaza. But unlike Cox, Pundt hasn't been dropping a gillion free "micromixes" and digital singles on their blog, opting instead to focus on the fantastic album of buttery, ambient pop music he's done for Kranky called The Floodlight Collective, which finally hits stores this week. "Red Oak Way" is the record's opener, a track that essentially sounds like a Deerhunter song being birthed from the golden womb of Animal Collective's Sung Tongs. Pundt's layered vocals are low in the mix, there are waves of delayed rimshots underneath, and there is so much reverb smothered all over everything it's often hard to remember that you're really just listening to a pop song. We're pretty enamored, and if you like what you hear make sure to go buy a copy of the record over at the Kranky site. They specialize in mind-melters.

Sounds like:
Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, Animal Collective
