So I've been bowling around London today and the sun's up there shining, which means it doesn't at all matter that I'm so many miles from Austin and its sprawling band camp jamboree, its barbeques and its weather. Are you having a good time? I really couldn't care. Honestly. And then I hear this song - "No Tomorrow" by Olympia quartet Desolation Wilderness - and the clouds go in and every bone in my body starts sighing 'cause the best thing I could possibly be doing now is listening to this band pick up and gather volume in a sweaty bar somewhere. Nicolaas, Andrew, Ben and Shelby all originally hail from California and they all say they miss its coasts. Too right - this is soul music for the daytrippers that got left behind, a gentler lo-fi pop full of sore longing, AM melodies and drums that tumble into each other like they're young, happy and half-drunk. It's a certain kind of perfect, of that there is no doubt.
Sounds Like: Crystal Stilts, Jens Lekman, Jackie Wilson
