VIDEO THRWBCK: PiL - Public Image (1978)
Sunday morning freshness is so rare that it only feels right to ease a hundred million hungover heads with today's video thrwbck; the pure energy blast of PiL's "Public Image" lead by guitars that sound cut from diamond and the howl of a John Lydon liberated from Sex Pistols and his old 'Rotten' moniker. PiL would go on to stalk odder terrain, but this parting shot at the circus surrounding his old band - orchestrated, of course, by arch-svengali Malcolm McLaren - benefitted from its proximity to the punk sound, a defiant palm in the face of a life that had started to run away from Lydon rather than a shying away from confrontation.
