Loudon Wainwright III never comes off as the most conscientious of dudes and "Motel Blues" really does nothing to help. The lines "Oh the bed's so big and the sheets are clean/ and your girlfriend said that you were 18" don't bolster the most confidence, but if you wanted a good guy you probably wouldn't choose this troubled, bearded man in the first place. This live recording from the BBC perfectly encapsulates the longing, real or imagined, that comes with being a "lonely rock and roller."
