VIDEO THRWBCK: Black Lips - Veni Vidi Vici
Let's reminisce the things we dig about this video: lax, sexy, lazy beats juxtaposed with lyrics about religious war, blatant DIY effects shot on a super 8 camera bought on the cheap, dizzying sepia cut away vignettes, cemeteries, Atlanta graffiti, red roses, and motel mirrors. Plus, let us not forget the fun fact that director Edward Tegethoff was in a punk band (called Freedom Puff) in which he used to eat live crickets on stage. (If anyone ever saw Freedom Puff perform, do speak up). When The Black Lips' lead singer/guitarist Cole Alexander was asked by Vice what he meant to portray in the video, he said : "To make a pop culture observation of the ruffled feathers of the trifilin asses of the religious extreme." Pretty much sums but why were are psyched to see The Black Lips play (read: possibly vomit, kiss, start pyrotechnic warfare, or urinate) on stage this Monday, March 9th, at Bowery Ballroom in NYC.
