DOWNLOAD: Baby Venom - FRANK + Moms and Dads

Baby Venom don't need your attention, your attention needs Baby Venom. It's a marvel to me that the Baltimore trio don't have fans encamped outside their homes - their heroic synthpop fits pretty well with the lo-fi bug spreading among the youth of the western world, though it's a sound reliant on kaleidoscopic keys instead of battered guitars. "FRANK" is one of the best songs I heard in 2008, a bedroom anthem that gives way to sky-scratching organ oscillation before the whole thing drifts valiantly into mysterious sonic territory, vocalist Dave like an addled John Wayne realising his diva dreams alone out in the dark of the desert. If you took those ecstatic keys and strapped them to a four-four beat you'd have a clubland banger on your hands, no doubt. "Moms and Dads" is less structured, a beautiful collapse of shimmering synths and drums that sound as if on their last legs. Take it as a swansong for now - the band are taking a break from touring and will return with new jams later this year.
