When you're trying to conjure the solemn euphoria that lurks in disco's darkest corners, allying with past masters of the trade can only aid you in your quest. So it is that "Visitors", a throbbing rush of defiant, decadent clubland pop, comes into this world: 20-year-old Londoner frYars backed up vocally by none other than Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan, while legendary synthpop producer Stephen Hague (Pet Shop Boys, New Order, PIL) comes with a starry-eyed remix. Both their influences are felt; "Visitors" boasting a bassline a major chord change and some TLC away from Gahan's classic "Just Can't Get Enough" and the doomy rush of New Order's "True Faith" - produced by Hague - courses fresh through his jaw-dropping refit. It's the prodigously talented frYars - known to his mother as Ben Garrett - who rules the roost here though, presiding over the track with the same dark sense of romance fellow oddball Patrick Wolf drags around in his gut, lyrics talking of bartered for hearts and lovers living on each other's backs.
