A quick examination of former Nation Of Ulysses and Make Up front man/author/TV host Ian Svenonius's influence on indie/punk culture reveals that he has built quite a career stealing and spinning esoteric ideas (Situationist sloganeering, fashion as a weapon, fanzine as communiqué) for the benefit of the young, hip youth of America. And we are psyched he is still doing his new thing, touring with the OTHER iconic indie dude Calvin Johnson this spring and cutting new records.

"Interview With The Chain Gang", a brand new track from his latest project Chain and The Gang (new album Down With Liberty ... Up With Chains out on April 7 on K Records) hits you with a Betty Davis-ish sleazy skuzz funk undercurrent that kicks, stomps and struts its way right into the well-read side of your brain before traveling down to the hips. Ever clever, Mr. Svenonious takes the liberty of basically interviewing himself over a serious as a heart attack slinky guitar riff to carry the tune along. "I've never done that before," he testifies in response to the soft female voice on the other end of the line, or perhaps in response to himself. Either way, dude sorta has done if before but we are always happy to see him doing it again, for the kids.
