Sugar, spice and all things nice, that's what Hearts of Palm UK (HOPUK) is made of. The LA-based threesome crafts undeniably cute yet lush synth-pop that smartly matches their vintage outfits and breezy Cali sensibility. The lead track, "I Flow" is sleek, School of Seven Bells-esque electronica, infused with sunny shimmer and lyrics about "flat skies" and the stars. Erika Elektra leads with a crystalline voice and keyboards, while buttressed by percussionist Sonia Powell and Jamie Kaye's strings. Just before you get too comfortable in their rose-colored dream world though, they sling out matter-of-fact commentary about Iraq, globalisation, and Obama in the lil' stream-of-conscious election ditty, "Super Tuesday."
