VIDEO THRWBCK: The Ronettes - Be My Baby (1965)
When I was a pre-teen I would sit up in my room listening to Growin' Up Too Fast: The Girl Group Anthology. Last week saw the death of Estelle Bennett, 1/3 of the Ronettes, in her Englewood, New Jersey home and the sad news brought me back to the advent of YouTube when I spent hours searching for videos of those girls in hot pants doing the pony. Take "Be My Baby" and start peeling back the levels of awesome in this live video. The girls in the audience loosing their minds for the Ronettes. The dancers all Risky Biz-ed up in the back. And the fact that this is how tight the Ronettes sounded live. I've been practicing this choreography all day and hope to one day be as fly as these ladies.
