For those left solo tomorrow on V Day tomorrow, what better way to ease your solitude than itchy, retro-fitted soul music. Enter Fitz & The Tantrums, the vehicle for an LA-based singer and songwriter named Fitz, who apparently wrote the Four Seasons-esque "Breakin' The Chains Of Love" after his ex-girlfriend called and told him about this awesome church organ being sold on the cheap by her neighbor. That was all it took, and with a new organ set up in his place, Fitz went on a recording binge, laying to tape all five tracks on the Songs For A Break-UP, Vol. 1 EP with one mic in his living room. It's in line with the stuff Ronson was working up for Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen on their breakout albums, neo-soul with gutsy baritone saxes and collaged ballad snares and kicks. Also who doesn't love a dude in a good suit.
