Marissa Nadler's Wikipedia page describes her sound as "dream-folk", which strikes me as an extremely apt description of "River of Dirt", this track from her new Kemado album Little Hells. Already four albums into a noted solo career, Nadler has enlisted the sonic aid of several well-known dreamwarriors, Simone Pace of Blonde Redhead and Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks, and you can hear reverberations of both groups in the canyon-deep echoes and classical pop melodies of this song. These touches, both delicate and indelicate, commingle with her rich vocals as the song settles in for a long winter's nap.
