DOWNLOAD: Captain Planet - Speakin Nuyorican

Brooklyn's cultural diversity speaks for itself, but now it's got an (admittedly limited) soundtrack with BKLYN, the compilation of nascent grooves from the borough compiled and curated by Aaron Schultz--a.k.a. DJ DRM and founder of Bastard Jazz Recordings--and Dan Martino--a.k.a. DJ Soulstatic and founder and program direction of Brooklyn Radio. Essentially glossing over Williamsburg's hipster traps, BKLYN gets at the imported music Kings Country has made its own, stepping through dub, Latin, afro-jazz, and hip-hop, and linking them together with a focus on modern production. The people involved were kind enough to shoot over an MP3 from the tracklist, an uptempo Latin joint from Captain Planet called "Speakin Nuyorican" that dabbles in piano, timbales, and horns but gets burly with some MPC'd together breaks. The whole comp is making us sweaty, so go pick it up at DanceTracksDigital now (exclusive there till Feb. 4th, after that widely available) and if you're actually in Brooklyn, come out to the release party tomorrow at Studio B.P.M., featuring DJs Soulstatic, DRM, Oneman, and E's E and live sets from The Pimps of Joytime and Subatomic Soundsystem.
