Veering away from the crammed maximalism of "Life In Marvelous Times" "Quiet Dog" is the next single from Mos Def's forthcoming album The Ecstatic (his first since 2006's True Magic,) a naked tune built around some razor-thin shakers, woodblocks, and jazz kicks, Mos dancing atop the shuffle with the veteran looseness we expected. It's also hard to not love a song that introduces its whispered chorus with the warning, "Boogie man!"

An illmatic poet, Mos Def is
An illmatic poet, Mos Def is one of the greatest rappers of all time. He's taking poetry to a whole new level. Using music to touch the lives of many around him: he shows how one person can make a big difference though use of words to change the world. Words, poetry, music: "art" upon mastery can do wonders in today's society. Some of the songs that stand out for me are "quiet dog" and "life in marvelous times." Looking at other suffer and not being about to do anything about it it the worst feeling in the world. For this reason, his soft words and controlled speech and mannerism amaze me for the words are full of fire. One man really can change the world.

Lauryn Hill to me is his equivalent as she struggles to educate the youth, especially young women on the dangers in today's world. Educating the youth on embracing art and love but always with intelligence. The mind is a beautiful things when the youth accept that everything in life comes with consequences. Many confuse love with lust, not understanding that love is eternal, not full of jealousy or ulterior motives. Many are afraid to let their love show, not realizing how painless it is. No matter what happens, one must always put God first.
