Veering away from the crammed maximalism of "Life In Marvelous Times" "Quiet Dog" is the next single from Mos Def's forthcoming album The Ecstatic (his first since 2006's True Magic,) a naked tune built around some razor-thin shakers, woodblocks, and jazz kicks, Mos dancing atop the shuffle with the veteran looseness we expected. It's also hard to not love a song that introduces its whispered chorus with the warning, "Boogie man!"
