EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Sleeping States - Liberty Feelup (Life Without Buildings Cover)

When his Sleeping States first tickled at our attention nodes Londoner Markland Starkie sounded drunk and it was spring 2006. Tracks like the brilliantly solipsistic “Rivers” seemed sunk beneath endless bottles of Beaujolais, Starkie welcoming each new moment through eyes reddened and heavy with hazed content as the song opened up around him. Then, after debut album There The Open Spaces was issued to acclaim in the autumn of last year, Sleeping States seemed to fall from the map. Returning after that time away, Starkie seems refreshed and grateful for the chance to sober; returning alert with this hyped Life Without Buildings cover, part of a five-track, limited edition, 10” EP called Old vs. New. As well as “Liberty Feelup” the EP features four new reinterpretations of old hits and is out now through new home Bella Union. A most welcome return.
Sounds Like: Wire, Orange Juice, early Libertines
