Listening back to Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours several months on should be a chastening experience. Worse for your teeth than a meringue covered in the residual crystals of teenage love, the dream-like quality of the Melbourne trio’s second album seemed to absolve us of any blame. Have you ever been arrested for looting sweet shops in your sleep? No, me neither - so, now blissfully beyond reproach, we’re joined in this orgy of saccharine hooks and gliding, sky-bound synths by two brassy acolytes of Dionysian New York. Be kids. Gorge. Released with the original yesterday in the UK, the DFA's Hercules And Love Affair strip back "Far Away"s drama and ramp up the late-night schmaltz, slap bass like Daddy Cool on his day off wobbling sinfully through back-alleys and falling into doorways drunk. The Golden Filter’s is a more determined take – retaining most of the track’s intensity but adding space to the recording, tense synths flutter nervously in four-four, like the first expectant pangs of disco-biscuit gut-rush.
