DM Stith's hand-sewn folk collages fit nicely amongst the Asthmatic Kitty squad, and for this track from his EP Curtain Speech (due out tomorrow) he sent the call up to two of his better-known labelmates--Sufjan Stevens and Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond--to help him bring out the best. "Around The Lion Legs" opens with some unraveling guitar strings and subtle harmonies from Suf and Ms. Diamond, but after a few minutes of Stith winding his narrative in between snare rolls and piano s, calesit crescendos into an avalanche of bass clef rattle and elegiac noise, a hymn for the bookish if there was one. And then with the sounding of a wiggly piccolo, it's all done and we're left wondering where in the hell dude got that coat from.
