Canadian musician Carey Mercer has made waves fronting indie rock band Frog Eyes and also helped put together Swan Lake, a collaboration between Mercer and his good buddies Spencer Krug (of Sunset Rubdown and Wolf Parade) and Dan Bejar (of Destroyer and The New Pornographers). He also records by himself as Blackout Beach, a project that poses his reptilian gasp over mountains of affected guitar puddles and sporadically placed drum patterns; aquamarine funeral hymns that sound a lot like Nick Cave's The Boatman's Call if it had been recorded in the ProTools era. On January 20th, Mercer will release Skin Of Evil, the second Blackout Beach album and one that centers around a story of a woman named Donna and her many lovers. We don't really know how it all goes from there but Bejar calls it "the best record I will hear all year," so we'll take that dude for his word. Download two tracks from Skin Of Evil below.
